Videos!

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Some videos for a Sunday morning, including some very overdue peeks at some Meredith birthday highlights. Go look!

We are enduring the Weekend from Hell — we can’t figure out if Meredith is cranky from teeth hurting or because she caught a cold from Michelle’s daughter Cate, but either way she’s been shrieky all day and shrieky all night and just generally shrieky. Which would be cute if it were Halloween, but not so much right now.

You can tell we have visitors because I don’t have any time to post! Christi and Nick are here for the week, enjoying the Pacific Northwest. Tuesday we all went up to Vancouver BC and took in some of the city (and the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The two of them went whale watching yesterday on the same tour we took — and saw LOTS more whales than we saw! Luckies. :) Today they’re in Portland staying the night, to return tomorrow for one last day with Meredith. (Oh, that’s the only reason they came!)

It’s been a long week — Kevin and I had Meredith-watching duties on Wednesday when Michelle had to leave town unexpectedly for a few days. She had some tummy trouble all day…and THEN Devi decided to wake up in the middle of the night sick. Between the two of them, it was not a happy day. :{ Luckily today was much better all around. But it will still be nice to have the week DONE, because work has been crazy, too. Our project is FINALLY almost done, but still lots to do before it’s finished.

Kevin has been baking good-smelling goodies today for my birthday tomorrow — little chocolate cupcakes, yay! What more could someone ask for for her 33rd birthday? :)

A Decade of Hijinks!

I couldn’t let too much more time pass by before someone commented on the fact that Kevin and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary on Saturday. (Although ‘celebrated’ implies balloons and clowns and parades and marching bands. Perhaps ‘noted’ is a better word. :>)

Ten years — sometimes it doesn’t seem possible that it’s been that long. And then, on the other hand, it seems like a LOT longer. In a few short years, Kevin and I will have known each other fully half of our lives; at this point, we’re at a good 42% (a magical number!) In that time, we’ve both grown up a lot. We’ve raised a puppy to adulthood without too many lingering side effects! We’ve lived in 3 states, moved and established households 4 times. And now we’re raising a real life person. And all through it, we’ve grown together, learning to lean on each other and depend on the other for backup and support. Of course it hasn’t been easy or simple, but that’s certainly been part of the fun.

So ten years behind us, you’d think we’d be experts at all this. But we’re just getting warmed up. On to the big 2-0!

Hang Onto Your Hats

We’re in the middle of some kind of marathon here, as Meredith has slept through the night the last couple of nights (I can’t remember exactly — that’s how tired we are. :>) Let’s hope she can make it number #3 tonight! (#4? #2? Whatever.)

Kevin is making lemon cardamom cookies in the kitchen tonight — any day when there are fresh cookies in the house is a good day!

So, this is representative of, like, 75% of the conversations at our house nowadays…

Meredith is grabbing Dad’s fingers, trying to step her foot up high enough to step on the footstool. Never mind it comes up to her armpits…
Dad: Sweetie, You can’t step up there, it’s too high for you. (Yes, I giggle. Deal with it.)
Mom, as Meredith: Everything’s a step for me, Daddy!
Dad, as Meredith: I’ll step on your head, Old Man!!! … I mean, I love you, Daddy…
Mom: She’s been taking lessons from Devi…
Devi: Looks at Mom, then Dad and Meredith
Mom, as Devi: No, you bitch! You’ll give away our secret!
Dad, as Devi, or maybe Meredith: Shut up, you fool, you’ll ruin us both!!!
Everyone breaks into giggles except Devi, who slinks away…

Duly Chastised

OK everybody — point taken. Once again, I have been slacking on the blog. Let’s see, what’s been happening…

Well, one, Grandma and Grandpa Chapman came to Seattle on a Great American Road Trip 2008! They put in lots of Meredith time, including babysitting for the entire day while Kevin and I were working! In addition, we went whale watching and met a cousin of Dad’s that he hadn’t seen in 46 years!

Kevin is once again in Wisconsin, coming back tomorrow. Yay! We always miss him when he’s gone — and not just because I can hand Meredith to someone else for awhile. Heh.

This week, Meredith has started making more strides (pun intended) toward walking. She’s barely holding our hands when we walk around — she just needs to make that first solo step and she’ll be off! She’s doing tons of talking, and yesterday seemed to suddenly figure out the “G” sound. So every once in awhile she makes a sound like “dog”! She’s pretty consistently saying Mama (although it comes out Mamamamama) and Buh-bye and working on her waving. She’s also back to eating a lot more — I think her teeth aren’t bothering her quite so much. The bottom teeth are all the way in, and she’s got the left top one halfway. She’s almost ready for corn-on-the-cob!

Devi is Devi, although she’s much happier now that we’ve resolved an annoying flea problem, the first we’ve had with her. She’s back to her perky self. :)

So really not a lot new — we’re just waiting for Kevin to come home right now and getting through the week. Living for the weekend!
