Statistics, Damn Statistics and Lies

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Well, statistics, anyhow.

M had her two-year checkup a month late. Essentially, she’s doing quite well! 75th percentile for height (TALL), 75th percentile for head size (BIG HEYAD) and 10th percentile for weight (MOORE MILK PEAS?). Verbal and physical skills are on track or ahead, and the doc and I are pleased with her status in general, but she won’t being going on 1% milk like many others of her age are encouraged to… we’ll be on whole for a while longer yet.

Besides… I kinda like having some around for baking. :)

It’s On!

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Back from Australia, Kevin is posting pic taken with a BlackBerry. The Canon was awaiting his return, much like April and M, and the 365 project has resumed. Tomorrow? Cake day!

What are you waiting around here for? Go look at pics!

All quiet on the Western front…

So, Dad’s back from Europe, his camera is in with Canon for repair/replacement. San Francisco was nice enough, but rather more spread out than we all expected. Dad has a summer cold, which is miserable and unfortunately coinciding with what might be the hottest day on record in Seattle - EVER. Little M has had a drippy nose already, so she’s probably been through it and gave it to dad. Mom is so far immune, but Esme is snifflely… oh, and Dad’s off to Australia in a little more than a week, shortly after a neighborhood block party next week for the Seattle Night Out.

Whew.

Booo….

Kevin and M’s 365 project is on temporary hiatus. Long story short, the camera’s busted.

Boo.

Monktastic

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

It was a Monktastic day. Monklicious, even.
There were readings of curious George, monkey master extraordinaire. Playing with monkey dolls. A brand-new monkey backpack, whose tail is a leash for mom or dad to hold. Much discussion of “mahn-gees” by little M. And the crowning monkey moment of all: Monkey M’s first escape from the crib… followed immediately by a loud thump and lots of crying.

She’s fine, or course, but it’s scary to fall from that high. So, it’s time to change up the routine, start closing her door for security and then… no more crib. Later this week, I’ll be taking down the rail and putting up the stubby sides. It’s time not only because she’s able to climb out, but today while out and about, M discovered small tables and bed that were just here size and was completely enthralled.

So. Almost two. Graduating to a big girl (sort of) bed. Just started facing forward in the car like a big girl. Things are really starting to move for little Miss M.

Your Daily Dose of Vitamin M

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

By the way, if you hadn’t caught on yet, April’s Flickr stream is no longer your most prolific source of pictures of M. I’ve upgraded to a Pro account myself, and am attempting a 365 (that’s a picture a day for a year) for myself and also for little Miss M. April’s stream is still the place for prettier pictures, and hopefully mine will improve (that’s part of the point of a 365 project, after all), but sometimes Grandparents prefer quantity over quality…

Come join the fun at http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinbingham/ and wish me luck in this endeavor.

Marching into a Pastel Future

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Employment continues to suit us both well. Little M flourishes with near-daily multi-hour excursions to the park and two hour naps. She can repeat (in her cute babelish) almost anything said to her now and there are no more chairs in the house that she cannot climb - though the spare bed will still give her troubles for a week or two, I think.

I’ll be in Wisconsin next week, meeting the rest of the IT staff and sucking their brains dry. Then my folks will join us at home with M for a bit - we’re all looking forward to it!

Drinking from the firehose

Employment, Day 1:
Account setups; HR processing; photo ID; all-personnel site meeting; site tour; expanded team overview; international conference call and primary issues discussion; initial system discussions; preliminary trip planning; international information security discussion with legal consul; team lunch; beginning customization of desktop.

I will not be bored.

Oh yeah…

It occurred to me that, while I started writing my own blog intermittently several weeks ago, I haven’t actually told anyone…
The Electronic Eclectic is a randomly published set of random topics from my jumbled brain. I’m linking you to the About page, to reiterate the warning: some topics or views may be uncomfortable for some readers. Despite that, comments and conversations from any and all are welcome, and encouraged… just come with an open mind.

Little Miss Center of the Universe

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Offhand updates… M knows the word “apple”, then though she was using it to refer to both apple and cheese yesterday. She sometimes knows how to blow snot out her nose on purpose. I found out in the last few days that she is a Mayflower descendant - John Howland is her 10th Great Grandfather. She knows how to roll and excise ball around the house - something she didn’t learn from anyone. She can say “cookie”, but we have no idea what she thinks it means. When Esme asks her if she wants to eat breakfast, she is more than happy to reach for her, instead of me… finally.

So what’s happening in your universe?
